Selecting the Right Meter Box

Material choice is the starting point. HDPE plastic boxes are lightweight, corrosion-resistant, and a practical choice for residential and light commercial applications in stable soils. Galvanized steel enclosures offer greater rigidity and are a good fit for tight installations or applications requiring a custom footprint — we can fabricate custom galvanized enclosures to your dimensions. Concrete meter boxes provide maximum durability and are the standard choice for most municipal water distribution work; our concrete enclosure line includes single and dual configurations in multiple sizes to accommodate 5/8″ through 2″ meters and beyond. For large commercial or industrial meter sets, our heavy-duty enclosures and traffic-rated vault options provide the structural capacity and access clearance those installations require.

Cover selection matters independently of the box. Cast iron covers on concrete boxes, locking lids for tamper-prone areas, traffic-rated covers for installations in or near driveways and roadways — getting the cover right prevents the most common field failures.
