Gate Valve Boxes, Covers & Riser Rings — Adjustable, Fixed Body & Locking | Bass & Hays
Underground gate valves are the shutoff points that make a water distribution system operable in an emergency. The valve box protecting them — and the lid covering it — needs to withstand decades of traffic loading, seasonal ground movement, and the kind of use that comes with a utility system that never sleeps. A valve box that shifts, fills with debris, or loses its cover puts that shutoff capability at risk exactly when it’s needed most.
Bass & Hays stocks a full line of American-made gate valve boxes, covers, and riser rings for water, gas, and sewer utility applications. Our products are cast from certified USA-sourced gray iron and engineered for the long service life that municipal and utility systems demand. We carry both adjustable and fixed body configurations, available as complete sets or as individual components — because field conditions don’t always match the plan set.
Browse Our Valve Access Product Lines
Our valve access line covers every configuration needed for water, gas, and sewer gate valve installations — from new construction to rehabilitation work. Browse by category below:
Adjustable Valve Boxes — Telescoping body design for installations where finished grade isn’t confirmed at time of setting, or where future grade adjustments are anticipated.
Fixed Body Valve Boxes — Standard rigid configuration for established distribution systems and straightforward new construction where valve depth is known.
Water, Gas & Sewer Valve Box Covers — Standard and locking cast iron lids for all valve box types. Custom branding — “WATER,” “GAS,” “SEWER,” or your utility logo — available on most covers.
Valve Box Riser Rings — Cast iron and steel risers for bringing valve box access to finished grade during overlay and pavement rehabilitation projects, without excavation.
Adjustable vs. Fixed Body Valve Boxes
Adjustable valve boxes accommodate grade variations without requiring custom fabrication. The telescoping design allows the top section to be set flush with finished grade even when the valve depth varies, and allows for future grade adjustments without replacing the entire box. They’re the practical choice for new construction where final paving grades aren’t confirmed at time of installation, and for rehabilitation work where existing valve depths vary across a system.
Fixed body valve boxes are the standard for installations where the depth is known and stable — typical in established distribution systems and straightforward new construction. They offer a more rigid assembly and are often preferred by crews who want a simpler, faster installation. Both adjustable and fixed body boxes are available in standard 5¼” and 6″ operating nut clearance configurations compatible with the most common gate valve designs.
Covers, Locking Lids & Riser Rings
Cover selection should match the operating environment. Standard cast iron valve box lids work well in most applications. Locking lids are available for installations in high-traffic pedestrian areas, near parks and public spaces, or wherever the utility owner requires tamper resistance. Riser rings allow the valve box to be extended to finished grade during overlay projects without excavation — a significant labor and cost saving on pavement rehabilitation work.
Bass & Hays can provide BABA, AIS or LEED documentation or certification for valve box access covers and applicable enclosure components, supporting required compliance on various projects. Custom branding — “WATER,” “GAS,” “SEWER,” or your utility logo — is available on most standard covers. Same-day stock availability on most items from our Grand Prairie, Texas warehouse.
