Storm Drain Grates & Covers, Trench Grates and Frames — H-20 Rated, TXDOT Approved, ADA Compliant | Bass & Hays
Storm drainage grates and frames are specified under conditions that demand precision — the wrong opening pattern creates a bicycle or pedestrian hazard; the wrong load rating fails under traffic; the wrong frame type makes installation difficult and future maintenance worse. These aren’t commodity items, and the cheapest option rarely stays cheap once you account for callbacks and replacements.
Bass & Hays supplies American-made drainage frames, grates, and trench covers engineered for the full range of municipal and commercial drainage applications. Our products meet ASTM A48 for gray iron and ASTM A536 for ductile iron castings, and our TXDOT-approved 814 Series curb inlet grates meet TxDOT standard sheet requirements for roadway drainage installations across the state.

Our frames and grates line covers area drains, trench applications, curb inlets, manhole drainage, pipe outfalls, and custom requirements. Browse by frame type and application below:
Reversible Frames — VRFG series reversible frames and grates in 12×12 through 48×48 inch configurations. Set the frame before finish grade, drop the grate in after — the most flexible installation geometry in our drainage line.
Angle Frames — VFG series angle frames and drainage grates from 9×9 through 38×38 inches, plus the VLM-36 36″ round angle frame. Standard for area drain applications where the frame seats directly into the structure.
Reversible Rings — VRM series 18″ through 36″ round reversible rings with drainage grates for circular drainage applications and manhole-to-drainage conversions.
Manhole Grates — 24″ and 30″ manhole rings configured with drainage grates rather than solid covers, for applications requiring both access and stormwater capture.
Trench Grates & Covers — Linear drainage solutions for parking structures, loading docks, roadway medians, and other trench drain applications. Standard and custom-cut configurations available.
814 Series — TXDOT Approved — Our most frequently specified Texas roadway drainage product. The 814® Series 18″×30″ combination frames and grates are TXDOT-approved and stocked for immediate shipment, along with custom-cut I-beams and hardware.
Pipe Drain Grates — CMP series 12″, 15″, 18″, and 24″ cast iron reversible pipe rings and grates for pipe outlet and monument box drain applications.
French Drains, Custom Grating, ADA Solutions & Accessories — Premium French drain systems, custom-engineered grating for non-standard openings, ADA-compliant grate options, and drainage accessories.
Understanding Your Grate Options
Frame geometry is the first consideration. Reversible frames offer installation flexibility — the frame can be set at grade before the surrounding surface is poured, then the grate dropped in after finish work is complete. Angle frames are specified where the frame seats directly into the structure at a defined angle. For round applications — manholes converted to drainage use, or pipe outfalls — reversible rings in 18″, 24″, 30″, and 36″ diameters provide a matching grate option.
Opening pattern affects both hydraulic performance and safety compliance. ADA-compliant grate designs limit slot orientation and maximum opening dimensions to prevent bicycle wheel and cane tip entrapment — required for any installation in or adjacent to pedestrian areas. For high-flow applications like parking lot area drains, larger open-area grates maximize capture capacity. Heavier ductile iron construction is available in select sizes for applications with the most demanding load conditions.
For linear drainage applications — trench drains in parking structures, loading docks, airport aprons, and roadway medians — our trench grate and cover options include both standard and custom-cut configurations. Our TXDOT-approved 814 Series 18″×30″ combination frames are a staple of Texas roadway construction and are stocked for fast turnaround.
