TxDOT-Approved Storm Inlet Covers & Grates — Stocked & Submittal-Ready

When a project falls within a TxDOT right-of-way — or is locally let under TxDOT specifications — the castings aren’t optional and neither is the documentation. Inlet rings, covers, and access sets must match the applicable TxDOT standard sheet exactly, and submittals are required before installation. Using non-approved products, even ones that appear dimensionally similar, creates inspection failures, project delays, and potential liability for the contractor and the governing authority.

Bass & Hays is a stocking distributor of American-made TxDOT-approved inlet rings and covers, serving Texas contractors, counties, municipalities, and TxDOT prime contractors for more than 67 years. Our TxDOT-spec products are cast from certified USA-sourced gray and ductile iron, bear the official TxDOT logo casting where required, and are stocked in Grand Prairie, Texas for same-day or next-day availability on most items. We maintain submittal drawings and compliance documentation for every product in this line — ready to pull when your project needs them.

Browse Our TxDOT-Approved Inlet Cover Product Lines

Our TxDOT-approved inlet cover line includes every standard access set required for state and locally administered Texas roadway and drainage projects. All products are stocked with official TxDOT logo castings and submittal drawings are on hand for each. Browse by product set below:

TxDOT Logo Bolted Access Covers — TxDOT-approved bolted access cover sets for applications requiring positive tamper resistance — utility vaults, high-traffic intersections, and installations where the owner requires a locked assembly. TxDOT logo cast in, submittal drawings available.

180-18 TxDOT #1846 18″ Inlet Access Cover Set — 18″ inlet access cover set built to TxDOT standard #1846. Stocked with TxDOT logo casting. One of the most commonly specified 18″ inlet covers on Texas roadway projects.

190-182 TxDOT #1846 18″ Inlet Access Cover Set — Alternate 18″ configuration also built to TxDOT standard #1846 with TxDOT logo casting. Check plan set specifications to confirm which of the two 18″ sets your project requires.

V1418/V1814 TxDOT Logo 24″ Access Cover Set — 24″ non-traffic access cover set bearing the TxDOT logo casting, for storm sewer and utility vault access applications within TxDOT rights-of-way where traffic-rated performance is not required.

380-24®R TxDOT Approved 24″ Heavy-Duty Access Cover Set — A frequently specified TxDOT product. The 380-24®R is a full traffic-rated 24″ storm sewer access cover set with top-flanged ring, approved for TxDOT roadway and drainage installations statewide. Stocked for immediate shipment.

814® Series 18″ x 30″ Frame & Grate — A trusted TxDOT standard, used in storm inlets, curbs, area drains, and linear grate or multiple grate arrangements. We stock combination frames, standard and directional flow vane grates, ADA-compliant pedestrian-style grates, curb hoods, I-beams, nuts, and bolts.

Understanding TxDOT Inlet Cover Specifications

TxDOT standard sheets govern the precise dimensions, load ratings, material specifications, and logo requirements for castings installed on state and locally administered projects. The #1846 standard is the most commonly specified inlet access cover in Texas roadway drainage work, covering both 18″ and 24″ access configurations. If you’re working from a TxDOT plan set and need to confirm which standard sheet applies to your inlet, our team can help you cross-reference the spec to the right product.

Our TxDOT-Approved Product Line

The 180-18 and 190-182 are our two 18″ inlet access cover sets built to TxDOT #1846 standard — both stocked with the TxDOT logo casting and available for immediate shipment. For 24″ applications, the V1418/V1814 access cover set carries the TxDOT logo and meets standard sheet requirements for non-traffic and light-duty access. The 380-24®R is our heavy-duty 24″ access cover set for storm sewer applications requiring full traffic-rated performance — frequently specified on Texas roadway and drainage projects. The 814® Series Grate is used for storm drains, inlets, curbs, area drains, linear grate or multiple grate arrangements.

For installations requiring bolted security — utility vaults, high-traffic intersections, or any application where the owner requires positive locking against unauthorized access — our TxDOT logo bolted access covers provide the same TxDOT-compliant spec in a tamper-resistant assembly.

BABA, AIS & Project Documentation

If your TxDOT project involves federal funding — including FHWA dollars flowing through TxDOT letting — BABA and AIS compliance documentation for your cast and ductile iron or steel castings may be required. Bass & Hays maintains full certification paperwork for our cast iron and ductile iron products, and we can provide it with your order. We also support LEED documentation requests for applicable projects.

Bass & Hays has been a trusted supplier on Texas infrastructure projects since 1958. If you’re building in Texas, there’s a good chance our castings are already in the ground near your project. Call us at 1-800-258-2278 (toll free) or 972-263-1360 (DFW), or contact us online — we’ll confirm product availability, pull your submittal drawings, and get your order on its way.
