American-Made Manhole Covers — Cast Iron, Ductile Iron & Composite | Bass & Hays
Bass & Hays has supplied American-made manhole rings and covers to waterworks contractors, public works departments, and civil engineers across Texas and the Southwest for more than 67 years. Every cover we stock is manufactured from certified USA-sourced materials — cast gray iron, ductile iron, or lightweight GMI composite — and meets ASTM A48 and AASHTO M306 standards for dimensional accuracy, load performance, and material integrity.
Browse Our Manhole Cover Product Lines
Our manhole cover inventory is organized by configuration, material, and application. Whether you’re specifying a standard traffic-rated cover, a watertight set for infiltration control, or a TxDOT-approved assembly for a state roadway project, browse by category below:
Standard Sizes — Our broadest manhole cover line, including the 300-24®, 400-24®, 380-24®R, HM-30® hinged cover, and the full range of TXDOT-approved 24″ and 32″ access sets in cast gray and ductile iron.
Reversible Rings — VRM series reversible manhole rings and covers in 18″, 24″, 30″, and 36″ diameters. Flexible installation geometry for new construction and rehabilitation.
Watertights — Gasketed watertight manhole sets in 24″, 30″, and 40″ diameters for sewer and stormwater applications requiring controlled infiltration and exfiltration at the cover level.
Storm Drain Inlets — Top-flanged rings and covers configured for storm sewer inlet applications, including the 380-24®R and 280-24R® storm drain sets and our basshays.fish™ BASS logo cover products.
Airport & Port Authority Castings — Heavy-duty covers engineered to FAA and port authority load ratings for airfield and heavy vehicle environments well beyond standard H-20 requirements.
Composite Manhole Covers — GMI lightweight composite covers for applications where corrosion resistance or reduced weight for frequent crew access is a priority.
Special Access & Vault Covers — Meter vault access sets, sidewalk plates, and specialty access covers for non-standard underground access applications.
Standard & Custom Riser Rings — Cast iron and fabricated steel riser rings for grade adjustments during overlay and rehabilitation projects.
Accessories & Tools — Replacement parts, maintenance hardware, lid tools, and keys specific to manhole cover products.
Choosing the Right Manhole Cover
The most important specification decision is load rating. H-20 traffic-rated covers are engineered to handle standard highway loading (32,000 lbs per axle) and are required for any installation subject to vehicular traffic — roadways, parking lots, and driveways. For installations in pedestrian areas or non-traffic zones, lighter-duty covers may be appropriate and more cost-effective. If you’re working in or near a TXDOT right-of-way, our TXDOT-approved covers — including the 380-24®R — meet TxDOT standard sheet requirements and are ready for submittal.
For sewer and stormwater applications where infiltration or exfiltration is a concern, our watertight manhole sets provide a gasketed seal that controls inflow and outflow at the cover level. For applications requiring enhanced tamper resistance or security — utility vaults, critical infrastructure, high-vandalism areas — we carry locking and bolted access options. Composite covers are worth considering where weight is a factor for crews doing frequent access, or where corrosion from hydrogen sulfide is a concern in sanitary sewer environments.
When a manhole cover fails — whether through material fatigue, improper load rating, or non-compliant installation — the consequences range from costly repairs to serious public safety events. That’s why specifying the right cover from the right source matters as much as any other decision on a municipal or infrastructure project.
BABA, AIS & LEED Compliance
If your project receives federal funding — including EPA Clean Water State Revolving Fund loans, CDBG grants, or federal highway dollars — your castings must comply with the Build America, Buy America Act (BABA) and American Iron and Steel (AIS) requirements. Bass & Hays maintains full BABA and AIS certification documentation for our cast and ductile iron or steel products, ready for submittal with your project paperwork. We also supply LEED credit documentation for projects pursuing sustainable infrastructure certification.
